Informed Charitable Giving

Kansas Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh is urging Kansans to take extra caution when making a charitable contribution by checking before they give. It is important to be informed when making charitable giving decisions.

Kansas Charity Check serves as a great resource for those wanting to make an informed decision. Charitable organizations are required to file with the Secretary of State if they meet a certain criteria. This site will give you helpful information that includes:

  Charitable organizations registered in Kansas
Money raised by the charitable organization
Percentage of money spent by the charitable organization for fundraising expenses
Percentage of money committed to the charitable organization
  Consumer advice on charitable giving

  Kansas Solicitation Law

The Kansas Charitable Organization and Solicitation Act as defined in K.S.A. 17-1759 et seq., requires charitable organizations, fundraisers, and solicitors to register with the Secretary of State prior to soliciting. Registration does not constitute an endorsement of the charity, its fundraisers, or its solicitors by the Secretary of State, Attorney General, or Department on Aging.
